Description
Many industries are built upon community developed and maintained software, Python and the myriad of data science and machine learning libraries is one prominent example. Historically, there has been limited release of open source tools and models for drilling, even with the wide range in student theses and software developed at universities. The Open Source Drilling Community (OSDC) has been initiated with the vision of enabling broader open source development and release of tools. OSDC is organized under the SPE Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS) and is partly hosted at Texas A&M University. This talk will motivate the need and benefits of open-source models, will provide an overview of current activity in the OSDC and will motivate why models should continue to be contributed. Currently contributed and soon to be released models and tools will also be highlighted.
