Reservoir Drill-In Fluids (RDF) have made an impressionable mark in the past decade despite the inception of the concept well over 20 years ago. As the targets for increased and efficient production using RDFs have been realized over a wide range of applications, the development has not gone without challenges related to significant upturns and downturns in the business environment. This presentation is focused on using case history examples to review fluids development and engineering efforts that have driven RDF technology forward.
Determining the right information in regard to reservoir characteristics is required to identify the best fit for purpose solution for successful deployment of Drill- In Fluid technology. Equivalent circulating density (ECD) restrictions, wellbore stability, and near-wellbore damage to reservoir are some of the key technical challenges that have faced open hole completions in the past decade. To meet these challenges, a host of laboratory tests and field procedures have been designed to manage the drilling of the well and maximize productivity.
Looking forward, the presentation will explore new opportunities to achieve increased production with lower carbon footprint using RDFs and continue to develop a broader range of successful applications.
