Josh currently serves as General Counsel of Newpark Fluids Systems and Managing (Chief) IP Counsel for Newpark.  While at Newpark, Josh has developed an intellectual property strategy for its oilfield and industrial business, and he has been instrumental in monetizing Newpark’s patent portfolio.  Before joining Newpark in 2019, Josh held various legal roles with Schlumberger focused on intellectual property, most recently as Product Group Managing Counsel for M-I SWACO where he oversaw global technology, intellectual property and supply chain issues for M-I SWACO and its various joint ventures.  In this role, Josh oversaw multi-million dollar patent litigations in the US, Canada, and Brazil.  At Schlumberger, Josh also became well versed in managing technology relationships with universities, suppliers and clients.  Previous to M-I SWACO, Josh had roles in the Drilling & Measurements and Wireline segments of Schlumberger.  After graduating law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law with an Intellectual Property Certificate in 2005, Josh honed his skills in private practice at a boutique IP law firm in Chicago and then a larger firm, McDonald Hopkins in Cleveland, Ohio, his hometown.  With his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Josh prides himself in leveraging his legal skills to protect innovation.
