The SPE Members in Transition Seminar Series is designed to include a selection of topics of interest to SPE members who are transitioning in between jobs during the current industry downturn or who are looking for new career opportunities.  The agenda for the 55th seminar in the series is "Exploring Sales and Business Development: How Technical Professionals can Benefit any Sales Team" and "Shaping Your Personal Brand So Others See the Best You" and will include a “Discussion of Resources for Members in Transition”.

Bryan began his career as a geologist for Ingrain Inc in 2008 where he was an integral part of the company’s validation period that led to the commercial launch of their product line and subsequent acquisition to Halliburton. After spending some time in subsurface data licensing at TGS NOPEC, he transitioned to Premier Oilfield Group in the capacity of Senior Account Manager. Over his career, he has held positions in operations, research & development, and sales & marketing.  Outside of work, Bryan enjoys personal studies in theology, outdoor activities like hiking or camping, and playing video games. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. Bryan received his B.S. in Geology from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008 and his M.S. in Analytics at Texas A&M University in 2018.


 


Speaker #1 Abstract: 


Transitioning to different roles in any company is a great learning experience. Many professionals explore various roles in organizations to get a sense of their inclination in a business setting. Others like looking for new challenges and variety in their career. In today’s environment, flexibility and diversity of skill sets are touted in social media, academia, and the corporate world. One area, often overlooked by professionals who come from a technical background, is sales and business development.


This role offers a wide array of personal development in areas like rapport building, powerful communication, effective listening, and cultivating prospects. Areas, where people with a technical background bring added value, are through sales and business development related metrics that utilize the quantitative nature of those from a technical discipline. Exploring the sales strategy and understanding how effective sales drive any organization is a skillset worth developing in any environment.

Over the past ten years, much of his work has focused on the junior and senior executive level success profile supporting large, complex transformations, particularly in the areas of healthcare, government services, customer support, and university leadership. In addition, he has designed and implemented unique methods for identifying best-fit physicians for leadership roles in cancer centers and medical schools. His work is strongly based on Learning Organization concepts, specifically on executive reflection, mindfulness, and accelerated development.
