Speaker #2 Abstract: Rigs to Real Estate: Sidetracking the "Boom or Bust" Cycle

It’s time to stop living from boom to bust. This is not a new problem, in fact, multiple generations of oilfield personnel before us have experienced the cyclical volatility of our industry. Speaker #3 Abstract: New Opportunities for Subsurface Engineers and Geoscientists in the Digital Revolution

There is a digital revolution underway in all sectors of our economy. Many students and working professionals are learning about big data, big data analytics and data-driven prediction for the first time. Yet, for energy engineers and geoscientists this is all familiar, as I like to say, ‘Energy has been working in big data long before tech learned about big data’. We integrate large and varied datasets with geostatistics and data driven prediction to solve difficult problems and support high-value decisions all the time. I teach data science, spatial data analytics and machine learning to energy professionals and I’ve seen first-hand that they are well-prepared to augment their skills to open up new opportunities.
