Description

Enabled by high-resolution geochemical analysis tools and data analytics techniques, the industry started to unravel the values in geochemical information extracted directly from the produced fluid and rock samples. There are thousands of compounds naturally occurring in the hydrocarbon that carry tremendous amount of information about subsurface fluid flow and reservoir dynamics. By directly monitoring and data mining the unique geochemical fingerprints in the produced oil and oil extracted from the rock, critical reservoir characterization and performance information such as fluid mobility, drainage frac heights, and well communication can be quantified through time to facilitate reservoir development decision-making. This presentation will cover the fundamentals of geochemical fingerprint technology and its key applications to improve unconventional reservoir economics and reserves calculation by guiding well stacking & spacing, completion design, as well as EOR decisions.

Dr. Faye Liu is the founder and CEO of RevoChem LLC, a technology company with patented laboratory procedure and data analytics tools in high-resolution, high fidelity geochemical fingerprint data from the oil. Faye worked at ConocoPhillips as a senior geochemist for six years before starting RevoChem with Dr. Jiang Wu, who is a biochemist with many years of experience working in the medical field. Together they adopted and optimized several chemical analytical methods from other disciplines including medical, food, and environmental areas for modernized geochemical analysis and data analytics using geochemical data. Faye has experiences using geochemical fingerprint technology over hundreds of wells across various assets including Permian Basin, Scoop/Stack, Bakken, Eagle Ford, Montney, and Vaca Muerta, resulting in improved reservoir economics through optimization of stacking & spacing, completion design, and EOR options.

Faye has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Geochemistry, both from Indiana University, Bloomington. She also holds a B.S. in environmental engineering. She has first-authored over a dozen peer-reviewed papers which have been cited over 500 times globally.
