Description
The climate issue is receiving a lot of attention and discussion. There is much at stake for the global energy industry. At the recent CERA Week held in Houston significant discussion was devoted to climate issues. Industry and Government executives presented their views on the potential significance of the climate issue on the potential near-term and future for the global energy industry. The United Nations Paris Agreement known as the Paris Climate Accord, addresses the climate issue. Some countries have adopted policies and requirements regarding greenhouse gas emissions. Some energy companies are developing climate issue strategies. Various environmental groups are advocating Governmental and energy company action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel consumption. There are currently divided opinions from the “alarmists” and the “skeptics” on the climate issue. Some would suggest that our planet is in peril in the very near term and that we must end the use of fossil fuel combustion. Others would suggest that oil and gas will continue to be the “energy of choice” for the next 50 years.
