We are smart people, developing innovative technologies and often forced to explain them to supervisors and executives from outside of our focused area of expertise. Or maybe we are field engineers, trying to work safely and efficiently in a world where every action is scrutinized to minute details by a noisy but narrow band of people who are predisposed to mistrust everything we do or say. What’s a smart engineer to do? Learn how to communicate effectively:  Understand your audience, dump the Powerpoint, and tell the “story” of your work.

This presentation will explain why communication skills are particularly critical for young engineers; share some best practices for developing and improving communication skills; and encourage participants to evangelize about oil & gas technology whenever they have an opportunity.
