Opportunities and Challenges of CFD Modeling in Completions and Production Applications

Xinghui “Lou” Liu is a Principal Engineer at Chevron Technical Center with 34 years of industry experience, plus 8 years of academic work on post-graduate studies and post-doc research. His interests include hydraulic fracturing design, modeling and surveillance, CFD modeling of proppant transport, unconventional development, acidizing, formation damage, geochemical modeling, completion and DFIT, etc. Lou has published numerous technical papers in these areas and coauthored a book titled “Petroleum Production Engineering,” ISBN: 978-0-12-809374-0, Gulf Professional Publishing (2017). Lou holds Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees in petroleum engineering from University of Oklahoma, Montana Tech University and Northeast Petroleum University (China), respectively.

Dr. Kuochen Tsai has spent 18 years with Shell as a SME in multiphase, particulate, combustion, and erosion/corrosion modeling. Before joining Shell, he worked for the Dow Chemical Company at Freeport, TX for 9 years in Engineering Sciences. His current interests are in multiphase flows, biomass processing, erosion, flow assisted corrosion and physics-based machine learning. Kuochen has a Ph.D in mechanical engineering from SUNY Stony Brook.

Chris Malbrel is the Director of Development of TPM Ltd, a sand control screen manufacturer based in Houston, Texas. Prior to joiningTPM, Chris has held position in Product Line Management and Business Development with several Major Oilfield Service providers. Chris is the author of a number of papers on sand control with a special interest in downhole screen design.
