Webinar: CFD Modelling for Separators – Industry Practices

Peggy Lane is bp’s Separation and Sand Subject Matter Expert and current chair of the SPE Separations Technology Technical Section. She is responsible for gravity separation and surface sand handling expertise in upstream, and also has an extensive background in produced water handling and waterflooding. Peggy has 30 years of process and production experience in design and operations roles in the US, UK and Middle East. She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Sander van Woudenberg has been working in the oil and gas industry for over 15 years and started for CDS Engineering/ FMC Technologies in 2005, based in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Sander hold a MSc degree in chemical engineering/ fluid dynamics from the Eindhoven University of Technology and has held a range of Process Engineering, CFD and Sales positions, currently as Lead Process Engineer for TechnipFMC. Sander’s areas of expertise include separation solutions for primary Gas/Oil/Water/Solids separation, Gas and Oil conditioning for export, Produced Water Treatment Systems and Sand Removal & Treatment Systems as well as CFD expert for separation related topics.

Henri holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering. He has worked for the Oil and Gas Industry since 2004 first at FMC Separation Technologies and since 2010 at Kranji Solutions. His expertise lies within the oil and gas processing, concentrating on the separation side of the business, such as 2-phase, 3 phase, solid separation, produced water treatment and gas conditioning.  Henri is process designing and troubleshooting separators, developing new separation internals with the extensive aid of CFD and R&D in the Kranji Solutions R&D laboratory.  His natural affinity with computers and extensive knowledge of separation technology and data processing has made him invaluable for the development of MySep, a process design engineering software.

Dr. Oshinowo is a science specialist focused on competitive technology development in the Saudi Aramco Research & Development Center to improve the design and operation of oil and gas process facilities. He has more than 25 years’ in the application of CFD, process modeling and simulation in the oil & gas and process industries in research, development, project engineering and operations. Prior to Aramco, Dr. Oshinowo held leading technical roles at ConocoPhillips, HATCH, ANSYS and Fluent in the USA and Canada.  He has over 70 scientific publications and multiple inventions. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto (chemical engineering & applied chemistry; 1997), is a member of SPE and AIChE, and is a licensed professional engineer (Ontario).

Tim Newton has over 15 years of experience in the study of separation systems for upstream processing modules both onshore and offshore.  Tim specializes in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate multiphase flows through the various parts of the production process including, separation trains, coalescer systems, gas treatment vessels, produced water treatment systems and MEG systems.  Tim also has a detailed process engineering knowledge of these systems and provides technical support to the wider produced water technology group within the NOV London Office, as well as assisting in the development of sizing tools for the company’s separation and produced water technology portfolio. Over the course of his career, Tim has also assisted in the completion of site work scopes on behalf of various clients both onshore and offshore.

Dr. Chauvet is the CFD Global Lead and technical authority at Wood. He has more than 25 year experience in flow dynamics and numerical modelling. After ten years spent in automotive and aerospace industries, he has joined the energy industry. He has a vast experience at solving very complex problems in order to provide reliable solutions for design improvement. Dr. Chauvet holds a PhD from the University of Poitiers (Fluid Mechanics, 1998)

Rafiqul (Rafi) Khan is a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer working for Schlumberger.  He has been working for Cameron/Schlumberger for the last thirteen years at the Process Systems Technology Center in Houston, Texas, USA.  Rafi has extensive background in designing and developing separators and treaters both onshore and offshore platforms.  Prior to joining Cameron, Rafi worked for ANSYS Inc. for 6 years.  As a leading CFD engineer at Cameron, Rafi uses ANSYS FLUENT software to design, develop and troubleshoot Cameron process equipment such as heaters, combustors, gas floatation technology, water injection technology etc.
