Sept. 17, 2020

Description

Since its inception in 2011, the Center for Offshore Safety (COS) has been committed to advancing operational excellence, safety, and protecting the environment through Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS). COS is dedicated to continual improvement in industry risk management practices based on safety data focused projects, development of good practices, industry knowledge sharing, and accreditation activities. The presentation will provide an overview of COS’s work products including tools, good practices, implementation techniques for supporting SEMS, and SEMS auditing and certification.   As the only Accreditation Body for SEMS according to the offshore regulator (the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement), a key focus of the presentation will be the revised COS SEMS Certificate program and will address the mechanics for obtaining a certificate following a SEMS audit. The presentation will also cover the importance of effectively resolving audit findings through a Corrective Action Plan – a key part of the certificate process. With every company working offshore now able to qualify for a COS SEMS Certificate, the presentation will highlight value of a certificate and how certificates can benefit both operators and contractors.
