It has been five years since the Deepwater Horizon blowout which resulted in injuries, fatalities and the largest marine oil spill in the histroy of the petroleum industry. The Department of interior re-organized not only their Department but also the agencies tasked with regulating offshore oil and gas leasing, exploration and development.
New drilling and safety requirements have been put in place and more are being proposed.
