Presentation based on research commissioned by CATF (Clean Air Task Force) to understand the challenges and the current state of technology for drilling super-hot rock. The presentation will cover the topics of: What is super hot rock, ROP Generation, Temperature Management, High Temperature Tools, cement and casing etc.

In March 2022 Tony moved into a VP role responsible for Subsurface Energy Technology particularly focused on Geothermal energy and Carbon Storage.


In October 2023 Tony returned to the UK and started a UK registered company “Pink Granite Consulting” (PGC). PGC provides consultancy and training services in drilling, drilling technology and drilling optimization to the Geothermal industry. Tony recently co-authored a paper on “the drilling technology gaps for Super Hot Rock”


Tony is a member of the IADC Geothermal committee and the UK all party parliamentary group (APPG) for Geothermal energy. He has published and presented 16 SPE/IADC papers and has 5 US and EU Patents on Closed Loop Drilling Automation, Automated Directional Drilling, Early Kick Detection, Particle Drilling, and Insulated Drill Pipe.
