Petro-Tech Study Group EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR PETRO TECHS INCREASING

Because of the increased demand for PetroTechs during the current oil boom and because of the low supply of such workers between the ages of 20 and 45, there has been a recent thrust to fill the PetroTech pipeline by providing more training, particularly in the Houston area.

There are three initiatives currently underway:

1) The Houston Community College has convened an industry advisory board to suggest input on the curriculum for a new PetroTech two-year degree. This curriculum has been approved by the HCC Board, and classes are scheduled for Fall 2007.

2) PetroSkills is opening a larger training center at I-10 and Pin Oak to accommodate the increase in the number and size of the training classes it offers.

3) The SPE IT Technical Section has a subcommittee focusing on a new curriculum to prepare workers to operate the Digital Oil Field of the Future.

This tag-team presentation will be done by the Chairman and Co-Chairman of the HCC PetroTech Advisory Board, who will describe these three initiatives in detail.
