Roughneck Camp is a one-day conference that empowers young professional, interns and student with the knowledge to choose and plan appropriate career paths as they become valuable, contributing members to their companies. In its 16th year, Roughneck Camp attendees will explore careers across the exploration and production sector, seeking to answer the questions, "Where do I want to take my career?" and "How do I make an impact in the global energy system?" Senior energy industry leaders and young professionals will share their advice and stories with attendees on why they chose their careers, what inspires them and how they have been able to navigate career transitions.


 

 


Roughneck Camp 2019 will be hosting a happy hour and networking social following RNC! The social is open to any and all, but RNC attendees are invited to attend for free! Join us at Saint Arnold Brewery to network with other Young Professionals.

Robert Palmer is Senior Vice President of Technical Support for Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum. He has global functional responsibility for the following areas: geoscience and domestic exploration; subsurface engineering and characterization; production and facilities engineering; and drilling and completions. Additionally, he oversees global technical training and support for Occidental’s Re-Imagined Oilfield project, which promotes workforce innovation and collaboration. During his more than 40 years with Occidental, Mr. Palmer has held positions of increasing responsibility in engineering and operations in the United States and internationally, including assignments in Peru, Russia, Oman and Argentina. Most recently, he was President and General Manager of Occidental de Colombia. While in Colombia, Mr. Palmer was instrumental in securing and advancing a number of significant new growth projects with Ecopetrol, our strategic partner in the country. He was awarded the “Faith in the Cause” medal by the Colombian Army in recognition of his friendship, ongoing collaboration and meritorious service in the benefit of the country. Mr. Palmer holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University and has completed the Program for Global Leadership at Harvard Business School.

Jayme Meier joined ExxonMobil in 1990 and since then has held a variety of production, development, commercial and environmental roles specializing in project management and execution. Jayme served in project management roles in several deepwater developments in the Gulf of Mexico and Angola, LNG processing projects in Qatar, and in unconventional gas opportunities in western Canada. In addition, Jayme has held strategic planning and commercial management positions at ExxonMobil Development Company focused on Company Plan and Budget, Stewardship and Investment Reappraisal. Prior to her current position, Jayme led a team of about 300 staff operating four offshore installations in Norway with a focus on SSHE performance, reliability and profitability. She led the transition efforts for the sale of ExxonMobil Norway assets in 2017, including transfer of people, processes, and systems. She assumed her current position as Engineering Vice President, ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company, in July 2017. In this capacity she leads an organization of about 300 researchers and technologists focused on tackling some of the most challenging problems in the upstream. Jayme graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in chemical engineering.  She is married with two children.

Michelle Pflueger is General Manager, Digital Innovation and Acceleration for Chevron. Michelle’s team is responsible for expanding and accelerating digital innovation across the enterprise.
Michelle’s career with Chevron has given her the opportunity to work in multiple countries, with leadership responsibilities ranging from roles in field operations (Offshore Installation manager on Agbami FPSO, Nigeria), to production engineering (Lead Production Engineer in Block 2, Angola), to central technology groups (Petroleum Engineering Consultant in Chevron’s Energy Technology Company). By furthering her education through a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics, she expanded her knowledge in advanced data analytics and complimented her experience in Chevron’s efforts around i-field, Upstream Workflow Transformation, and Lean Six Sigma. Michelle has passion around the transformation of business and workflows through the integration of data analytics and digital technologies.
A native of California, Michelle received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from University of California Berkeley in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Applied Statistics from Texas A&M in 2011. Michelle is a lifetime member of the Society of Women Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Melissa Calhoun is currently senior director of talent management at Halliburton.  In this capacity, she is responsible for the employee development cycle overseeing corporate HR functions including talent selection, technical and non-technical competency, learning and training governance, career and performance management, succession and leadership development, and organizational effectiveness.  Her experience spans 23 years in the oil and gas industry in a variety of technical and managerial positions at the district, region and global level beginning as a field engineer in the Gulf of Mexico and progressing through roles in operations, business development, engineering management and new product development.  Melissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and has completed all levels of Halliburton’s executive development programs in partnership with the Texas A&M Mays Business School Center for Executive Development.  She currently serves on advisory boards for PESA, Halliburton Global Engineering Programs and the College of Human Resources Management (both for Texas A&M University), and chairs the Educational Advisory Board for Halliburton Foundation, Inc.  Melissa has been married for 18 years and is the proud mother of 3 children.
